Walk Safe 20/20 is a movement toward a safer environment for visually impaired pedestrians. Physical activity is a great challenge. The fear of navigating chaotic streets can cause people with little or no vision to stay inside. With new technology, we can support the independence of visually impaired pedestrians and help them feel secure while walking outside.
The 145th Street Alliance will work with the Department of transportation, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, community boards, local and state officials to implement safety measures to protect the visually impaired at pedestrian crossings as well as any MTA access points.
